The only thing I really worried about is family. Being a mayor is a busy job obviously, you are responsible for an entire city. I want to eventually have a family, and I want to spend time with them. Do mayors have any free time?

School board sounds like a good idea. Is there an age requirement for that, or does it depend on the school district?

Usually you only need to be 18 to be a school board trustee, which is also the only requirement to be governor of most states.

I'd like to become a mayor to help out my city, help it grow, improve it and the schools, but I don't want to waste my years in school on law and then end up never getting elected for anything, you know? I don't want to be a LAWYER, I'd like to be a mayor. I want to study criminal justice in college, and hopefully get the chance to become mayor one day. So does not being a lawyer or majoring in political science lessen my chances of being elected as mayor/city one day? Do you need hundreds of thousands of dollars to do even a decent campaign?

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section. I figured people in this forum would know more about this than in the work forum, which is more general and could talk about any career.

The most recent ex-mayor or Denver (now the Governor of CO) has a background in geology and beer-making.
