So, here we have the utmost in hypocrisy in government; defend your position by claiming you need a majority of 60 in the Senate when it pleases; but pass through a vote with less (53) when it is opportune.

It's either payback for previous favors or pay-forward for future ones.

Besides, not showing up for a vote means you don't have to defend it.
Sneaky maneuvering by Senators still surprises some? Why? They couldn't care less what we mere mortals think. Given the way elections are run these days, and the incredible advantage that attends incumbents, they have virtually lifetime tenure unless they tap their toe in the wrong restroom.

(And I do get a chuckle from that ongoing description of Bernie Sanders as an "Independent." I'd like to see how many times he hasn't voted with the Dems. )
