How dare this woman put out a fire. There are rules to follow by golly. She should have called 9-11 and waited with the children to burn and die. The fire department would have been along to clean up the bodies. Country has gone insane.

"The most important task of a daycare center worker is to keep the children safe. So when Michelle Hammack, (right) a teacher at the Little Temples Childcare facility in Arlington, Fla., smelled smoke and the children were napping, she rushed out of her classroom to investigate. (Arlington is a neighborhood of Jacksonville.)

Seeing that chicken nuggets were burning in an oven, she was able to put out the fire before even the fire trucks arrived on the scene, according to a report by WTEV-TV in Jacksonville. Her boss, however, wasn't impressed. On that same day, the owner of the childcare facility Olga Rozhaov fired Hammack.

Rozhakov defended her decision to the media. "I fired her only because she left her room," she told the TV station. "It's not acceptable, and if anybody else does the same thing, I will fire again. I will fire them. No question."

Hammack, for her part, is taking credit for keeping the kids safe. The fire "probably would have progressed had it not been put out before [the fire trucks arrived]," she told WTEV-TV. She was also able to march her students out of the building to safety. And so, she says, she's being mistreated. "I didn't start the fire. I put it out." She's protested her firing outside the school. Parents have yet to make a comment to the media about her story."

Between this and all the hate toward Zimmerman for helping rescue a family, I can guarantee you if I see someone in trouble, I'm outta there.

Let them fend for themselves.

There are NO EXCEPTIONS to rules. Zero Tolerance has taken over.
Logic is gone.

In this case I would have made an exception to a teacher leaving a room full of sleeping kids.

from your link:

Rozhakov defended her decision to the media. "I fired her only because she left her room," she told the TV station. "It's not acceptable, and if anybody else does the same thing, I will fire again. I will fire them. No question."

She left the kids alone in the room.

Not like she went out to her car to have a beer. Are you serious? She put out a fire.

Happy Texan is correct............"There are NO EXCEPTIONS to rules. Zero Tolerance has taken over.
Logic is gone."

Orwellian bureaucracy is in full bloom these days...Things are so compartmentalized that no one dare stray from the assigned position and role. If you are a teacher you teach - if there is a tiny fire - let it burn because that is not your department- It is the FIRE department role...If you see an old lady being beaten by thugs- turn away and call the police. We must follow the direction of our masters. This report is crazy. At first I thought that it might be about a huge blaze in the corner of the room and the teacher got out a garden hose to fight off the blaze........It was some Mc nuggets in an oven....soon we will have three fire trucks and police in our homes if a neighbor smells burnt cookies>

She was fired so the center can claim they did something.

Reporter: Please explain to us the surroundings around the fire at your day care?

Owner: We have fired someone over this.

It's nothing more than an attempt to draw blame away from the center even though the truth is once again the better reply.
