Because they can't get their hands on guns as easily in Mexico due to the tough gun control laws there.
Quote:
Drug gangs seek out guns in the United States because the gun-control laws are far tougher in Mexico. Mexican civilians must get approval from the military to buy guns and they cannot own large-caliber rifles or high-powered pistols, which are considered military weapons.
Quote:
The gun laws in the United States allow the sale of multiple military-style rifles to American citizens without reporting the sales to the government.

Mexican authorities have long complained that American gun dealers are arming the cartels.
But what the heck, don't let facts get in the way of a good rant.

There's just one problem with the 90 percent "statistic" and it's a big one:
It's just not true.
In fact, it's not even close. The fact is, only 17 percent of guns found at Mexican crime scenes have been traced to the U.S.
What's true, an ATF spokeswoman told FOXNews.com, in a clarification of the statistic used by her own agency's assistant director, "is that over 90 percent of the traced firearms originate from the U.S."
But a large percentage of the guns recovered in Mexico do not get sent back to the U.S. for tracing, because it is obvious from their markings that they do not come from the U.S.
"Not every weapon seized in Mexico has a serial number on it that would make it traceable, and the U.S. effort to trace weapons really only extends to weapons that have been in the U.S. market," Matt Allen, special agent of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), told FOX News.
Perhaps something radical needs to be tried...like securing the border, going both ways.

Let's begin with the statistic of the only17% of guns found at crime scenes were traceble to US. The report goes on to say that many of the guns had their serial indentfication removed.
So the 17% number is too low due to untracebility. The unability to trace a gun the to US doesn't mean the gun was not from the US.
The fact that the 17% was at crime scenes, means that there are far more guns out there than the ones used at a crime scenes. So the 17% is only a fraction of the overall weapons from the US floating around in Mexico.
Common sense will tell you, that a nation with the amount of arms floating around would not be the main supplier of weapons to a next door neighbor country.
Legalize marijuana and decriminalize simple possession of some other schedule 1 drugs and there's no longer a need for Mexican drug gangs.
The gun issue will work itself out once that's done.
For some reason, the right-wingers are no longer harping about "Fast and Furious!"
Who cares? I could not care less if 100% of the illegal guns in Mexico came from the USA. Mexico is a cesspool and criminals will be criminals. If the liberals want to use this as fodder to continue to try to take away our gun rights so be it. What else have you got?
No one ever claimed that the Mexican drug cartels get 90% of their weapons from the US. That is a red herring sent out by Fox News and other right wing media to confuse and distract their listeners from the real issue which is:

What was all the fuss about "Fast and Furious" then? And why did the right-wing media suddenly stop fussing about "Fast and Furious?"
It just proves a point. The laws mean nothing to the cartels so they will break them by getting guns illegally to terrorize civilians and whatnot.
So, more laws here wont change a thing other then making it harder for the LEGALS to obtain.
There is still harping on Fast and Furious.
We still have a constitution, so stop trying to step on it. Read it, understand it, love it, live by it. If you dont agree, move out!
