Also there is a steep marriage penalty in welfare programs, so getting married often has financial costs, at least in the short term.

We could also solve some of the issues, if we had more mom friendly work policies.

Unfortunately, the single moms with the least advantages, have the most inflexible work situations. A middle to upper middle class professional mom can adjust her work schedule to go to PTA meetings, take the kids to soccer practice...

If you work in retail, as a health care worker or restaurant worker, this isn't possible.
Single moms work health care jobs and there is some flexibility.

Right-wing talking points can't get anymore ridiculous.

The key is to diversify your household skill set so that BOTH people are not unemployed at the same time or for the same reason.

There is also a steep marriage penalty when there are 2 married people make about the same income. It's worse the higher up the income ladder the combined income goes. It doesn't stop people who are both educated from getting married.

Stack two incomes together and part of the income is taxed at a higher percentage. So think about it, government uses taxes to encourage or discourage specific behaviors. Obama and the democrats are anti-marriage. Obama went after people making $200k a year or if you are married $250K a year. That is a marriage penalty. So the same happens with welfare?

Sounds like democrats talk the talk but don't walk the walk. Government discourages marriage.

Something the OP doesn't get.

No one ever said marriage is the answer to getting a job, or that pulling your pants up will get you a job the next day. You just like taking a viable subject and twisting it all around to make yourself sound intelligent.
It didn't work, you don't sound intelligent, you sound like a troll..!
They probably watch MSNBC, Al Sharpton. I listened to one of his rants and he is off the wall nuts. It's funny to watch him making those faces as he distorts what another said. A pretzel with words.

Seriously? This is how you think, it's ok to have babies with low economical prospects but not get married. That's sad, really sad. And sad for the kids.

Why are they having children then?

This is a strawman argument. No one is saying that if you get married you magically become successful.

Obviously it isn't good to be in a bad marriage - especially for the kids.

However, there is a real point to be made that children in single parent homes perform worse in school and are more likely to wind up in the judicial system compared to their peers with 2 parents -- regardless of race and socio-economic status. So it is smart to encourage people to not have kids until they are in a good marriage.
