You know what this thread is, a bunch of people demonizing some stereotypical group of people that doesn't represent the people who are actually receiving means-tested program benefits --- most of whom are the working poor, and most of whom do not have big families.

But carry on with your fantasies....

Given that the average SNAP benefit is $105 and also consists of about ~ 2.8 people per family, those numbers also refute the point of this thread. And I'm not going to go and look that up for you, I've looked it up enough times to know my numbers aren't far off , so you can confirm it for yourself if you want.
The average SNAP benefit is about $130 PER PERSON

Here are the mathematical facts for those who don't realize how grossly unfair our current tax code is (including you, ellemint)...

For purposes of this example, let's assign the top 25-50%'s 6.01% average effective federal income tax rate reported by the IRS to an income of $40,000. The tax paid would be $2,404.

Now let's apply the top 1%'s 23.39% tax rate to an income 14 times higher, $560,000. The tax paid would be $130,984.

130,984/2404 = 54.5.

The second income earner would be paying more than 54 times the tax the first earner paid, while earning only 14 times as much income.

Wow, that's a tremendous amount of money for a family of three!

Because they have more to begin with.

Because 50 % of $717,000, which is the average income of the top 1 %, still leaves you with $358,000 to live on.

Whereas 50 % of $18,000 leaves you with $9,000 to live on.

Do you see the difference?

A family of 3 gets $130 x 3 which is $420/month in supplemental aid.
SNAP is not supposed to be your primary food source.

$105 per week for a family of three is more than enough SUPPLEMENTAL assistance.

What's the alternative?

"Nearly 72 percent of SNAP participants are in families with children; more than one-quarter of participants are in households with seniors or people with disabilities."

The U.S. is one of the wealthiest nations in the world. If we can't feed our hungry children, seniors and disabled people, shame on us indeed.

I think it rare that any woman has unprotected sex with the intent of receiving a relatively insignificant bump in welfare benefits. The Welfare Queen thing is nothing more than a myth that seems to have originated with a few poorly chosen words of Reagan, back when, before he completely lost his mind.

THANK you! Someone with a brain is actually posting on this thread.

The first step in marginalizing a group is stereotyping them with a bunch of erroneous negative connotations. After a group is marginalized then you can start persecuting them, and maybe ultimately put them in a concentration camp or something.
