The State Dept has ordered embassies to close on Sunday in the ME, including Afghanistan and Bangladesh, and possibly will remain closed for a few days following. Apparently a plot to attack embassies by Al Qaida has been discovered. Also worldwide travel warnings are being issued to Americans which will extend to August 31.

But that will not be the case this week, with CBS News reporting that the US had received intelligence of an al-Qa'ida plot to target US diplomatic posts.
How is this possible? Al Qaida has been decimated and was on the run.

But the State Dept did not give any locations or which embassies will be closed.
And that's right there in your article.

I mean we all know it means the ME embassies.
But I guess the government has to portray PC when it comes to the Middle East.

So let's all assume they mean embassies in France, Switzerland and Japan instead.
Because we all know that Islam is the religion of peace.

Is that all you got?

I thought you were capable of understanding that not all Muslims are terrorists. You proved me wrong.

Here you go:

Some of the biggest U.S. embassies will close, including those in Egypt, Iraq,
Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait, where tens of thousands of U.S. troops are based. The
U.S. embassy in Afghanistan will also close. So will embassies in Dhaka,
Bangladesh; Amman, Jordan; Muscat, Oman; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Algiers, Algeria;
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; Sana'a, Yemen; and Tripoli, Libya, according to
security warnings issued by those embassies. Two consulates in Saudi Arabia will
also close, in Dharan and Jeddah, as will a consulate in Dubai, United Arab
Emirates.

Embassies in the ME are closed on Friday and Saturday as that is the weekend. Sunday is a working day.

It's not as if US embassies were never attacked or bombed. Ignoring plots isn't a good thing. 9/11 is a perfect example of what happens when you don't follow the chatter. Better safe than sorry. 9/11 was a very sorry day.

Good Lord..the chance of finding a terrorist in an ME country is what compared to France or Japan ?

And I was behind in my reading. I read about this yesterday and the State Dept had only said some embassies and would not release any details.

Now I see an update today that embassies are posting their closing on their website.

FWIW Ramaden is coming to a close..it's over 8/7/2013.

what is the middle ground between not ignoring plots and running in fear?

and of course 9/11 was a very sad day.

There was knowledge of that plot by the way. They never know the exact day or target.

So every time a bit of intelligence comes out are we supposed to shut down?

And we have only made relations with these ME countries worse since then.
We stoked the war on terror.

They have won. They succeeded in their terrorizing of America.
We haven't decimated anything. We gave them guns and money and made them even more powerful and dangerous and armed today than when bin Laden was their leader.

Just close the embassies for good and leave the countries.
We've done enough damage and it's not fair to innocent Americans that go there to work.
They are not the ones wheeling and dealing in arms and money and bribes. Those guy are in DC sitting in cushy offices making phone calls.
