If some think that only property owners should vote on property taxes, it seems only fair that only smokers should have the right to vote on cigarette taxes.

It makes much more sense to ban nonsmokers from voting on tobacco tax issues than it does to ban welfare recipients from voting across the board...

The idea of only property owners voting is antiquated. Welfare recipients not voting im fine with.

Everyone pays for healthcare of cigarette smokers. As such, everyone votes.

From whence does this nonsensical idea come of citizens being allowed to vote for/against cig tax?

Remember SCHIP? The outrageous 0bama tax that tripled the cost of cigarettes? You know.....the one that Bush vetoed! Did you get the chance to vote? No? Didn't think so.

To answer the question, yes, only users should be allowed to vote for any tax, be it cigarettes, property, whatever.

no, but they should be able to dictate where the money is spent. cigarettes should come with an insert allowing smokers to check where they want the money to go.

Incorrect.

Everyone pays for the healthcare of cigarette smokers who refuse to take the responsibility of providing the insurance or means to pay for any complications that may arise due to smoking which that specific person is susceptible to (ie not everyone suffers from ailments due to smoking, nor does everyone who does suffer ailments from smoking become burden of cost to the tax payer).

So, if we are to be honest, then the issue comes down to the fact of people who do not take responsibility, as the case of someone "costing" the healthcare system is not simply reserved for smokers, but that of numerous lifestyle choices and individual susceptibility to those choices.

That means, those who eat poorly when they have genetic dispositions to such habits, or those who live lifestyles that increase the odds of their sickness or injury that they are susceptible to, and so many other specific of a person's choices should be taxed because... as you say... they are a burden to the healthcare system.

The entire problem is letting those who don't, have control over those who do. The result is...

"Yes, increase taxes on that, I don't do that, buy that, etc..."

These forms of taxes are "control" taxes that are supported by self interest of pitting people against each other.

If the tax is so "noble" and "needed", should not everyone pay it?

Discriminatory taxes are that... be it by color, choice, origin, etc... they specifically burden one group for the benefit of another.

I don't expect people to agree, after all... we have had years of theft from people due to ignorant generations attacking one group over the other simply because they disagree with the way they live.

If a smoker wants to hurt himself; that's 1 thing, if a smoker wants to light up in a closed in area with other people, especially around kids, that's something else and it shouldn't be allowed.

I actually think that everything should have a flat tax. income tax should be a flat rate, sales tax should be a flat rate, etc.
