A line in the sand needs to be draw somewhere.

Why can't reps legislate without money? and without their perks, special interests, and pork projects?

It doesn't cost hardly anything to write on a piece of paper with a pencil or a pen.

Maybe in the future a President can not have a past or present membership in any club or organization with lobbyists on salary or retainer.

The common sense answers are not the problem. Getting people elected to do these things is the problem.

Have you talked to many teens or college students? Many don't care for either party.Instead both parties need to fix the problems. Not fight."he said this, she said this".

Same as finding a President with no criminal record. Background checks would be on her/him.

YES - campaign finance and bankers gambling with their depositors' money, both major points which would solve many problems for the middle class imo. A third is the out-of-control lobbying of Congress.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce hits $1 billion lobbying milestone « CitizenVox

And this is just the iceberg's tip - one special interest out of many. How many people know that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is a lobbying consortium of private businesses - a "union" if you will?
We know what the RW thinks of labor unions for Joe Lunchbox, but corporate unions are obviously "good for America".
In response to the OP, it is the republicans who support these initiatives.

Washington has lost all credibility when it comes to checks and balances.
Wow, the 1st page alone pretty much solves a lot of the problems in our political system.

When this country begins taking care of their own people and updating infrastructure, cut foreign aid, stop involving ourselves in another country's business. I know, we need oil.
