The Navy originally said it planned to repair the submarine but the discovery of additional damage raised the cost, originally estimated to be about $450 million.
Isn't that about the cost of just ONE of the Obamas vacations?

A "disgruntled dock worker" (translation = Union goon) caused $450 Million dollars worth of damage to a US Navy Nuclear Submarine ..... and we have to blame the Republicans because Obama insisted (and devised) a "Sequester".

Makes' perfect sense in today's world. My call would be "Treason", but that wasn't the call. The "call" is to trash the Submarine. Mission accomplished by the Leftists.

So, you are for spending cuts in the abstract but when it comes to specific cuts, you are against them. Congratulations! You are truly a member of the GOP.

GOP "specific cuts" = anything that ISN'T defense oriented.

They'd double the damn defense budget if they had their way.

^^^Yeah. Partisan whining that having 1 less sub is some sort of major crisis.

The Navy chose to scrap the Miami and devote their resources to the dozens of others ships to ensure readiness.

Not too different than the folk from Ohio who insisted the Army build new tanks they did not ask for or need. The Army already had more tanks than they needed to the point they were gifting them to Egypt.

Failure to build meant the Ohio manufacturer might need to lay off people.

It goes something like this:

$ to fund the admin of the endless welfare/entitlement programs -
$ to fund the military for equipment the military does not need or want-

Who knows? Maybe the history books will say sequestration was the best thing since sliced bread.

No union involved here. He was a civilian employee, a painter. He set fire within the sub because he wanted to knock off work, early. It took 100 firefighters 12 hours to put the fire out. 17 people were injured.
