The GOP is a good choice for thieves, gangsters, drug dealers, con artists, and other unsavory characters who need a front organization to hide their criminal activities. It's not really a legitimate political alternative to the Democratic Party though.

The mafia is basically defunct now, but Italians in the NYC metro tended to bite republican during the mob era. I guess both outfits had the same ideas about "free" enterprise and unregulated markets.
