I knew that would be one of the first posts from the moment I read the thread title. Haters gotta find something to talk about! Of course, this statistic pretty much contradicts your supposition:

The number of applications for unemployment insurance payments declined by 15,000 to 320,000 in the week ended Aug. 10, the fewest since October 2007, from a revised 335,000, a Labor Department report showed today in Washington.
There are no stats on people who've "dropped out." But fewer people are applying for the first time.

It IS getting better.

Sorry to burst bubbles.

It depends why those numbers are going down.
Walmart posted some gloomy news today about sales. Global sales, not just US are slowing down.
Walmart's base is the poor. I've posted this before that Walmart is the canary in the coal mine here that we need to watch.

We keep stats for just about everything except fraud.

People are obviously confused about the meaning numbers.

The weekly numbers are Initial Jobless Claims. They are new unemplyed. Long term unemplyed people dropping out of the pool are a different issue, and more relevant to the monthly emplyment report, but not relevant to this one.

Irrelevant, though expected from Obama haters.

The rate is down because fewer people are applying for the first time.

I think there is a thread open about Wallmart.

Yes. Cons live for the failure of this country so they can whine about Obama.

It's pretty obvious on this forum and in Congress. A five-year-old would notice.

I didn't see their report, but Wmt sales could go down if there are less poor to sell to or if they offend too many consumers. I loathe that place and won't even buy their gas.

The BLS is reporting that. If less people are working common logic tells you the number of jobless will go down as well.

Call the St Louis Fed a "hater".

57% for women and 69% for men.

Claims for jobless benefits unexpectedly dropped last week to the lowest level in almost six years, signaling the U.S. job market continues to mend.

The number of applications for unemployment insurance payments declined by 15,000 to 320,000 in the week ended Aug. 10, the fewest since October 2007, from a revised 335,000, a Labor Department report showed today in Washington. The median forecast of 44 economists surveyed by Bloomberg called for 335,000. There was nothing unusual in the data and no states were estimated, a Labor Department spokesman said as the data was released to the press.
So jobless claims are increasing at a decreasing rate? So, things are getting worse, but the amount they get worse each time is decreasing?
