I mention the victim being black because I personally believe he wouldn't have been hassled if he were white. That is my opinion. He says it wasn't about race, that's fine. I think it was.
By the way, there is nothing saying one cannot flip off the police, which is what they thought he was doing.
You would think that in a town as small as Evansville, especially with a youthful looking police chief who knows the firefighter in question, that the police department would be well acquainted with the men armed with hoses.
It sounds like everyone is trying to do the correct thing at this point. Evansville, by the way, is not so small that a policeman would automatically know who their firefighters are. Aside from which, why does his profession matter in this case? If an action is wrong for average Joe Citizen it is wrong for Fred Fireman.

Maybe you can flip them off, but why would you, unless you are trying to **** them off? Rule number 1, don't **** the police off!
Can we expect a press conference from Martha's Vineyard to let us all know that the police acted stupidly?
OP: If you read the police report you'll understand why your thread is an epic race card dropping fail.
yes the OP said that those involved don't know as much about it as someone who wasn't there.
The OP clearly states that it is his OPINION that racism was involved.
Apparently, some think the OP is not entitled to have an opinion.
Also, apparently, some think that the police report is the absolute truth, and Mr. Madison is covering up or outright lying.
In my OPINION, the officers overreacted during the entire incident. In my OPINION, racism could very well have been part of that overreaction.
In my OPINION, the lessons to be learned are very simple:
1. Do NOT believe any cop is your friend. NEVER wave at a cop, he or she might see what isn't there.
2. Do what the cop tells you to do. You can sue for civil rights violations later, but first and foremost, protect yourself. Do NOT give them an "excuse" to become intimidating or violent.
3. If at all possible, record any and all interactions with any law enforcement personnel.
