Four Vanderbilt football players collared for raping an*unconscious woman in college dorm and taking photo of brutal attack* - NY Daily News

My thoughts are first with the victim of this horrendous act.

I am not sure why this story has not received more attention. When the Duke Lacrosse Players were falsely accused of rape it was a high profile national story.

Too many College football players think they are entitled and invincible on campus. The rules do not apply to them (so they believe) because they bring in the big bucks to the Universities.

Perhaps because of the Duke case, there's an inclination not to jump all over the story

It's not just at the big schools. Back in the 80's at a school with an enrollment of 2,200 and a football team in the NAIA Division 1 classification (somewhere between NCAA Div II and III), the football players thought they could get away with almost anything. I had numerous run-ins with them in normal social settings. It wasn't all of them but the ones that had this attitude made sure everyone knew it.

Reporting the story and determining the innocence or guilt of the party are two different things.

Let's wait until all the facts come out.

The football programs are basically organized crime on these campuses.

You are right,

But overall there is a mentality by collegiate football players that they can do anything. Regardless of the out come of this case

Harrier doesn't see that.

It sounds like the University is handling it appropriately, which is probably why it's not as newsworthy. It's when people (the school, the community, the students) jump up to protect the rapists and denounce the victims (like the Stuebenville rape case, or the Penn State deal) that it makes headlines. That type of attitude also makes the rapist think that he won't have consequences for his actions. As for the rest--as long as everyone is doing everything in their power to get to the truth, cases like this should be kept low key until a thorough investigation is completed and they know they have evidence and good reason to charge the criminals.
