I think a bigger issue is why would anybody hire somebody who might "go postal"?--are we so short of workers in america now?
How does an employer identify a job applicant who " might go postal"?
Likely 5% of adults in the U.S. "might go postal", under some circumstances.
Stormfront boasts about 150,000 paid members. There are hundreds of white nationalist and racist websites, including online dating and some that target children.
Most who pay or visit these websites probably do not disclose it when they interview for a job.
let me add this isn't just fox news-huffington post had the story and said that he also bashes gays.
really, don't they check people out when they work for any part of HOMELAND SECURITY???? aren't they ordering weapons???? -just looked it up, why, yes they are::
It's illegal to asked a job applicant/employee about their views on race, sex, religion and ethnic groups.
Even if there were no laws preventing it, nothing would compel anyone to respond truthfully.
That site appears to be more anti-gay than anti-white or anti-non-black. The guy behind the site thinks that gays are trying to destroy the black community by turning black kids gay. It's even more virulently homophobic than it is racist (and it is certainly racist). Kind of like Godfather Politics. (In fact, if not for the "black" angle, I could see certain people on C-D embracing it)
The DHS obviously doesn't object to this sort of hate and gave it a pass. Kudos to the SPLC for bringing this up.
The OP's link makes clear, he lied about his moonlighting gig.

I would be very surprised if he had never posted online before-it seems to me that people leave trails on their views, even as we all do here.
and they know now, so now what?
on a side note, I do think it is ridiculous that those questions can't be asked, particularly in light of the fact that citizens can be sued if an employee does act out. We deserve to be able to weed out the bad eggs before we have to pay for the damage they cause.
Racism and prejudice are human traits. There is no reason to believe these traits are more prevalent in one group than another. Anyone can be racist or prejudicial for any reason. There are racist black people, white people, Asians, etc., etc.
Being an ignorant, hateful jerk knows no ethnic or cultural boundaries.

Your bad egg might be the next guy's cup of tea and neither may have a darn thing to do with an organization's values.
Everyone lies and/or hides something during an interview.
People who work for government are like people who work, everywhere. X % are whack jobs.
Most really evil people do not self promote on their own websites.

I believe they are learned traits. We humans tend to have an immature emotional need to puff up our egos by painting others with a broad brush and then look down on them to fill our own needs.
Racism and prejudice say more about the ego of the person than it does about the target.
I find it funny because the guy works for an agency that coddles minorities and promotes them over more qualified employees soley on the basis of their minority status

And it's the agency that has put out warning bulletins saying veterans, who fought for all our rights, need special attention for possible terror activity.
