So sure, it's probably easy to collect, but I'm pretty sure that it's all going to his lawyers.
Who cares who paid? He now wants the state to pay for some which appears he is entitled to on some level according to the law. If the state was concerned they shouldn't have filed politically motivated charges and produced a made for TV show trial.

Any money he recovers will certainly go to his lawyers, which he reportedly owes over $1 million to, and his wife's lawyers.

I don't CARE who paid...I'm asking a question.

He wants to be reimbursed, so it's fair to ask seeing as how he didn't really pay for anything out of his pocket.

the source of the $$ he spent doesnt matter, what matter is how much he spent.
per the laws of the state of floriduh, they have to reimburse him.

when MoM gets thru with floriduh, he needs to continue down the line and sue everyone else who slandered GZ,
everyone involved on the winning side needs to retire as millionaires...

Hey! For those of you here who donated (and we know you're out there!), wouldn't that tick you off just a little?

please read the article, he cant sue for attorney fees.

of course he gets to pocket it.

how were anyone who donated "suckers" ?
the only suckers where those who ignored the laws and decided his guilt based on what Chicago Jesus whined about on TV..

why do you care where the original $$ came from ?

Isn't this interesting... Not only did Florida RUSH to charge George Zimmerman with a crime that just about everyone capable of coherent thought said was unjustified and would be found innocent of, but -

NOW, in addition to all the money it cost to try this in court, it's going to cost even more money, because the state of Florida is liable for all legal fees with the exception of those direct attorney costs.....

Zimmerman, the gift that keeps on giving.

For his lawyers, no, since the state provides defense attorneys for people who can't afford them. But for his defense, yes. The state has effectively unlimited resources. They can get as many lab tests, as many expert witnesses, as many investigators as they want. So if the state wrongly charges someone with a crime, they should absolutely be required to reimburse the innocent person for expenses incurred in the defense. How is an indigent person supposed to get rebuttal witnesses or have evidence tested or examined for exculpatory results?

Has anyone watched "Cold Case". If you have you notice that the state often waits 20 years until new evidence or new technology gives them the evidence needed to convict. The state of Florida was forced by a mob of idiots to try a case without sufficient evidence to convict. Some day new technology may make it possible to determine who was actually screaming for help in that audio tape. If it turns out to be Martin the state is going to damn well wish they had waited, of course the unruly mob had to be satisfied.

I got the full story on NPR this morning.

It's ONLY reimbursement for things like expert witnesses, travel expenses, filing costs etc.

It is NOT covering legal fees, so the title of the thread is garbage.

The state generally only pays a tiny amount in cases like this, so collecting 200-300k is just not going to happen.

Zimmermans 2 lawyers legal fees are ADDITIONALLY >1.5million

The money would go to zimmermans defense fund. Unless he gets some big $$$ from some of the news networks there isn't going to be $$$ to pay most of those amounts.

Basically, this money is predominantly going to cover legal costs....it won't be much $$$ and people can split hairs about whom it "goes too" but it's ultimately going to his lawyers.
