Remember Tawana Brawley?
You honestly believe that one stupid act by one stupid teenager somehow negates all of the acts of actual racism Blacks and other minorities experience each and every day?

Really? That is like saying that because one woman falsely accused one man of rape, that all of the other women who were raped also lied.

Interesting how those who want to diminish this reality can point to one or two incidents that they think prove their case while at the same time ignoring all of the hundreds of incidents that prove otherwise.

How about this: I call your Tawana Brawley and raise you one James Byrd Jr.

Surely you remember James Byrd Jr?

Oh, and since we are on this topic, from TODAY'S news:

What you fail to grasp is that when you claim everything is racist (such as the quotes in the article) all you accomplish is degrading REAL instances of racism.

Who gets to determine what qualifies as a "REAL instance?"

All I've seen in this thread are people attempting to downplay what people consider to be REAL racism.
They've turned it into a joke and/or something only perpetrated by those who want to somehow "get over."
The facts about discrimination in the justice system, for example, are summarily ignored as are other realities in favor of patronizing platitudes about "working harder" or "being too sensitive."

Very rare examples not withstanding, minorities KNOW when they are being discriminated against just as women know when they are being sexually harassed or have hit the glass ceiling.

Certainly true. However, in the 2008 election there were many who predicted that McCain would win on the basis of a "Bradley effect." Basically the idea is that racists whites won't admit to a pollster that they won't vote for a black candidate, but then when in the voting booth, they never vote for a black candidate.

There was no Bradley effect in 2008, and it turns out that there hasn't been any evidence of it for almost 2 decades.

It's much easier to identify what NOT real racism.....examples are the 15 quotes in this article.
