House Speaker John Boehner is promising a "whale of a fight" over the debt ceiling. He is going to demand greater cuts than the increase in the limit:
]"I've made it clear that we're not going to increase the debt limit without cuts and reforms that are greater than the increase in the debt limit," he said at a Boise fundraiser for Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho), according to the Idaho Statesman. "
When asked about the possibility of a government shut down he told the Statesman:
“There is no reason for the government to run out of money. Our goal here is to stop Obamacare. Our goal here is to cut spending.”
His comments signal that he and House Republicans will fight to link spending cuts to the debt ceiling -- an approach that President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats have flatly rejected.
"Let me reiterate what our position is, and it is unequivocal," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Monday. "We will not negotiate with Republicans in Congress over Congress' responsibility to pay the bills that Congress has racked up, period."
He seems to believe the Democrats will agree to defund the ACA in the end. I guess it's no sillier than DeMint suggesting that if a bill to defund it comes to his desk, the President might very well sign it.

Well Congress has to bicker until it's too late to actually do any cutting or raising taxes.
Then they will raise the debt ceiling and say they will work on it later.
Obama will call for another across the board cut..on future funding of course.
Agencies will angst and talk about the abyss and Congress will find money to give them.
Didn't we go through this two or three times already ?
Those of us lucky enough to be educated before NCLB aren't the fools. We haven't died out yet.
Actually, all the GOP keeps saying is cut spending in the amount of proposed debt increases -- Makes sense to me; we can't simply keep increasing the debt year-after-year-after year ... just to buy votes for politicians who only seem interested in their own re-election.
