Obama, a pale reflection of the heroes of the civil rights movement in America, did it again in his speech today commemorating the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech.
Obama decried stagnant wages for 'working Americans.'
This working American came up the hard way, from the lowest economic quintile to the highest one, not to the 1% but definitely to the 3%, nice six figure income, definitely on the "get rich slow" scheme.
The 80 hour weeks, the 70 hour weeks, the all-nighters....they evidently do not put me in the class of "working Americans." After decades of struggling and juggling, finally achieving a measure of financial success commensurate with my value to the rest of society, still putting in 50-60 hours per week, and I'm not a "working American."
Sheesh. Maybe if this guy had ever owned a business, or managed a business, or even worked in a business or had a paper route or a lemonade stand--maybe then he would not be so dismissive of the people that built this great land.
Poll tested language is the only language this President speaks.
I wonder how "get off your lazy ass and pull yourself up by your bootstraps" would poll test with Obama's supporters?
I'd reconcile that it wouldn't go over well. So we're stuck with a pandering, intellectually dishonest liar pushing sky-high rhetoric. It seems to never stop with this guy.

"It’s all right to tell a man to lift himself by his own bootstraps, but it is cruel jest to say to a bootless man that he ought to lift himself by his own bootstraps."

Indeed. His perspective is of someone who has never held an actual job in his life, and accomplished very little in the "jobs" he actually did have.
Much like his friends in Hollywood, Obama is far removed from the reality of the average person.
Everything was given to 0bama, his scholarships to the Hawaii prep school, and his scholarships for all his college. He was an adult, and never had to work a hard day of work. Even as president, that man's schedule typically does not start until 10:00 AM and he is usually all done by 4:00 PM, unless he is going to a fund raiser that honors himself.

And who exactly do you consider to be "bootless" in 2013?

Everyone has bootstraps, they are metaphor for honor, integrity, determination and commitments to self and family. There is no man who is without bootstraps, unless he is a ward of the state by choice.

"ignore the poor people behind the certain, the ones who's public education you have defunded instead of fixing in favor of vouchers which pay for schools they can not afford to transport their children to because you have cut public transportation or raised its price so that those who need it the most can no longer afford it. It is obvious that King was not using the term in the same way you are, so you are deflecting.
And King made his remark about "boostraps" in 1968, not 2013.
It was a clear call for anti-poverty programs, affirmative action, and other measures designed to provide boots to the bootless.
