There's no side in this conflict that we should take up. It's bad vs bad. It's awful that Assad is using chem weapons, but the boys he's fighting are Islamist extremists, from all reports. Probably better in the long run for Assad to remain in place for the time being.
I expect a clear no vote.
But that's the logical course of action and this congress has been teabag city, so who knows?
I guess everyone forgets that the Senate is part of "Congress".
The Republicans should do exactly what Obama is doing and vote "present". Let the Democrats take the lead on this. Obama already said it doesn't matter what their vote is -- hold him to it.
The poll, IMHO, is flawed, as it only has "yes" or "no" options. But we're talking about our wonderfully dysfunctional Congress. Do we know if they'll even vote?
Personally, I thought it was a great move on the part of President Obama - put the spotlight on Congress and let them show the country yet again just how screwed up they are. It's also the right move. Congress - God help us all - absolutely should determine the course of action.
Didn't vote as the answer wasn't in those choices. They'll vote the way the Military Industrial Complex has bought and paid them to. I'll leave that to you to decide yay or nay.

Voting No on this will not hurt anyone's election chances, but voting yes could.
The Senate will vote yes. John McCain has enough support for that. And i dont see a real opposition there
The house is actually up for grabs.
I expect any congressman from a district with a large military presence to vote NO, That includes a large chunk of the Eastern Seaboard.
There are going to be states who's entire delegation will Vote no, Virginia and North Carolina guessing as well as a majority of Florida. California will be slit.
If i had to guess right now, i would say its a yes vote 210-205 with some 20 of the Democrats not voting at all.
This is a serious situation, but amusing to observe. If Obama pushes for a human rights-driven intervention, he is a despot. If he does not, he is a coward. The wingers get outrage points everytime, even as they do nothing to lead our country themselves.
Personally, I think that if Obama doesn't do anything it would mean he came to his senses, either by himself or with some help. This isn't a national popularity contest, but an international dilemma. This is not a time to be concerned with ego, but a time to think rationally.
There was a link on another thread about the UK issuing licenses and selling chemicals to un-named companies in Syria 10 months after the protests started. More than likely the request for the chemicals was for agricultural purposes, but that is what a front for either the Assad regime or something that the rebels set up.
Cameron is going to be called up on this. If it is indeed proven and true that the UK sold chemicals in Syria, will they be held responsible in any way??
This situation with Syria is so convoluted. The more I read the more questions I have. Clearly Assad had factories and was producing chemical weapons, and in Iraq there were factories established by terrorists to produce sarin and mustard gas which were going to be smuggled into other countries, including Syria. What a mess, what a very dangerous mess.
