Congress could approve military action, and this President then choose NOT to take it. I suspect that his response to Syria has been planned for many months. Other nations may get involved and impose some other non-military action onto Syria, with a military action being only a small component. This President is smart.

Whatever the case, CHANGE is coming to Syria, and it won't be brought about by the Neanderthal methods of Dubya and the Republicans. It will be brought about by a brilliant President of the United States, a black man, in a manner just as effective as his implementation in getting Bin Laden.
Why should the US get involved in a foreign conflict such as the one in Syria?

OP-What will be your take when most/all Dem members of the Senate vote to go into Syria? Will you decry them for making the same mistake as Bush?
Who has proposed going into Syria?

Good, bad, or indifferent it's time people on either side of the issue learn the difference between targeted strikes and a full scale boots on the ground invasion/occupation.

Default Why are conservatives against Obama going to war with Syria?

The Republicans are caught in a quandary over this Syria situation.

On the one hand, their military-industrial complex masters see this as an opportunity to keep the taxpayer gravy train flowing their direction. After all, their profits depend on perpetual war.

On the other hand, their hatred of the president seems to consistently override their intellect, what little they have remaining. The fact that this is Obama's initiative will cause knee-jerk opposition.

Personally, I strongly oppose any military involvement in this mess, because there are no allies on either side. It will be interesting to see how congress plays its hand. Before the August recess, they were adamant that the president consult with them before taking any action. The ball is now in their court. Once they return to DC we'll find out if they can handle it or clumsily toss it out of bounds.

To keep the defense contractors happy. Since the end of WW2 that`s what every one of our ridiculous adventures has been about.

Every issue is turned into a partisan issue. Virtually the only time you get broad bipartisan support these days is when you do something like the resolution to award the congressional medal of honor to some soldier who saved a dozen lives. Anything that even has a remote possibility of being controversial will be turned into a partisan issue. Both sides are more concerned about re-election than they are anything else.

Look at Obamacare.

For the Democrats who supported it, they had to have secret meetings and backroom deals to get their own people to vote for it when they were afraid voting for it would hurt their election chances.

For the Republicans who oppose it, there is now a fight in the party against representatives who are afraid if they defund it they will get blamed for a government shutdown and lose the next election.

So Obamacare is one of the biggest issues in the nation right now, which will either provide for the health and safety of millions of people or will destroy millions of jobs depending on who you talk to. In either case you are talking about massive repercussions for the entire nation. But representatives on both sides of the issue are reluctant to take action to either pass or defund it for fear of what will happen to their re-election chances.

I'm a moderate, and I'm against going to war with Syria.

Syria didn't attack a US military base.

This is a CIVIL WAR. Syria is fighting within its borders. Why WOULD we get involved in another country's civil war?
