Lets be honest here. If a manager at work hears a black person call another black person the N word it is likely to be ignored. If the same manager hears a white person use it, regardless of tone or context it is likely at the very least the white person is going to get a rip for it.
There is a double standard and that isn't the only one.
Woman calls another woman a b*tch and it will most likely be overlooked. Let a man call her that and it is a rip.
I work in a PC environment, this is exactly how it is. I have no issue watching what I say while at work. Their game, their field and their rules.
The court of law should be different. If it is wrong for some then it should be wrong for all.
It's also ignored in school by teachers.
"Wat up my n*gga" between two Black students doesn't even get a blink of an eye.
Folks, this is a dangerous slippery slope we are going down in regards to freedom of speech and the 1st Amendment. The loss of such will occur one step at a time.

PC is going to kill us because now the courts are involved and the ACLU jumps at the chance to represent someone.
Our focus on social engineering society via the courts and Congress is causing such a divide among Americans which will lead to our downfall.
"STRIVE, which has been heralded for helping people with troubled backgrounds get into the workforce. Its employment model, which was described in a CBS' "60 Minutes" piece as "part boot camp, part grouptherapy," claims to have helped nearly 50,000 people find work since 1984."
He went on a 4 minute rant about her inappropriate workplace attire and unprofessional behavior. I wonder if she would have had a case if his rant did not include the N word. I hope he has Employment Practices insurance.
Regardless, taking offence is a choice.
Next time, this boss will more likely terminate an employee who chooses to dress and behave inappropriately, instead of using tough love.

Many of us will agree with you but this boils down to what a company will accept and allow. A company may indeed curtail someone's free speech rights.
The court is ruling that if you are going to curtail the rights of one, you must do it for all.
I've ansewred yes, and I have made my point. double standards was not on trial, the actions of the boss were.
Your wrong and obviously didn't read the whole article, if you did then your dishonest. The multiple meanings of the word ****** was on trial. Had the boss not used them and just berated the employee using non-racial or non-perjorative words then there would be no trial.

Back when, I had a client who was fond of dropping the F-bomb in a business where F- speak is common. He and his employer were sued. The case was thrown out of court because this guy was consistent in his use of the F-bomb. I will never forget that.

You can't trust a person who never curses, I truly believe that. WIth that being said, I never curse in front of women or children.
I hear it at school all the time among the kids.
I cringe every time I hear it.
You should. It's unacceptable in a school. Can't you guys give out some kind of disciplinary punishment for the kids using on campus?
Well, it's probably not worth the trouble anyway.

There is virtually no word that is discriminatory or hostile no matter the context.
I'd say most rants, N-word laced or not, could easily be hostile however. But not because of one word.
Well...i've had my ass chewed off by my boss several times (with many more to come lol) and it's been pretty hostile a few times. But NEVER quite as hostile as it would be if he slipped the N-word into the tirade. That would be nuclear. It would certainly launch the hostility into new territory.
Employment is not bootcamp..whether he used the N word or not, verbally demeaning employees is harassment. If there is a problem or issue to be addressed, memos or staff meetings are appropriate.. not having NA/AA flashbacks..Kudos to the guy kicking the dope habit even without the slur, he was wrong..
