As a kid I was told that I should respect the other guy's opinion. Now I'm seeing all of this hateful vitriol across political lines and countries, I now see Europeans accusing Americans of bashing NHS and Canadian Health Care. On the other hand I just can't believe why conservatives here are so quick to be healthcare judges. I don't even want to be a conservative anymore. I still want to maintain some right-wing views but I don't want to have anger towards me. It's horrible. I saw a thread in the world section, the OP wanted to take a rightward spin on Europe, but it ended up in hateful discussion.

Believe what you think is right, not because of how somebody else responds to you. That gives a lot of power over you to someone that believes it's okay to direct anger toward you for believing it. That's more of an indictment to them than you. Politics has anger on both sides. Ignore it and evaluate for yourself.

That's pretty much what the American right wing has degenerated into. I would love to see a return to the old William F. Buckley intellectual conservativism but the party has morphed into a religious, southernly based party now which demands completely conformity and doesn't allow for any discussion or opposing views. Even attempting to bring up the topic gets people labeled a "RINO" now. At least Buckley's positions were based upon facts and evidence and if new evidence came to light then he would change his position in order to conform to the latest evidence; this is called living in a reality based world and modern American conservatives no longer do that and instead insist on living in a made up fantasy world where facts and evidence have no place.
Until that changes they'll just be an ever shrinking party which is more and more extreme as the people who do want to live in reality and make policy based upon facts & evidence abandon ship.

rubbish, the republicans are pushing to go back to what this country was founded on, and that is written into our constitution. if anyone is demanding conformity it is the left in this country.

You are new around here. You should be black like me and read all the "black threads" around here and see how much people hate you and if you weren't thick skinned, you would really be hurt.

But I agree with this.
I actually am a fiscal conservative and most of my friends/acquaintances are conservative and really it is disheartening how the crazy right has taken over the ideology of the Republican Party.
I am from Ohio and have voted for Republicans before, George Voinovich comes to mind, who was mayor of Cleveland, Governor of Ohio, and a Senator. He was a true conservative IMO. He was one of the only Republicans during the GW Bush years to be outspoken on Bush's overspending and fiscal irresponsibility. He also was willing to go across party lines and work with (the horror ) Obama on a small business proposal and some ACA initiatives in 2010 and was labeled a RINO due to it and criticized by many tea partyers. And IMO he was pretty conservative, he was anti-abortion, pro-Israel, and VERY fiscally conservative. I am pro-choice but could still support him because he wasn't a race baiter or hate mongerer and could think for himself and make sense. Those same tea partyers who ridiculed him in 2010 were all for him calling Obama a "socialist" during the 08 campaign. You just cannot reason with these hard right people. The GOP was the good ole party because it was full of thinkers and people who wanted responsible government but who also could compromise to ensure we stayed just a little to the right. Now-a-days if you went a little to the right, you would be a Democrat lol.

Don't let the opinions of other people disuade you from speaking your mind.
I don't.

Is that an opinion based on a feeling or actual fact?

Fact - The federal government has no power to spend any money on healthcare. Transcript of the Constitution of the United States - Official Text Please point that out.

Man up. I've had a lot of names thrown at me on this forum and via private messages. I lose no sleep at all.
You can disagree without being mean. Go back and check my posts. I call no names. I do my best to base everything in fact or at least personal experience. Feelings rarely come into play. People can hate me all they want. I would still debate them the same way in person and not lose a minute's sleep.
