We're just hearing now about things WE did in WWII like using the census bureau to round up Japanese Americans. Denied it for 50+ years until the Treasury documents were publicized.
Right or wrong (I have no opinion on that) the Government was in a box on that one. Most of them wouldn't denounce Japan or swear allegiance to the USA. The attack at Pearl Harbor was done without prior warning or declaration of war. There were over 100,000 coastal defense sites that were top secret.
