I'm also wondering what those 1,000 Chinese marines are supposed to do there.
It would be nice if they went ashore, sought out the Syrian command and control, and blew it up along with the personnel, including the guy at the top.
But I would be astonished if they did anything so practical.
And if not that, what?
If they bring the full marine battalion with the intent of carrying out an opposed landing with no artillery, air support or heavy armor, they're kinda dumb - and the Chinese may be many things, but they're not dumb.
They're mostly there to show the flag - you can operate helicopters of a type 071, it's rigged to act as flagship with communications etc. And apart from their second-hand rag-tag carrier, those are by far the biggest ships they have. It looks good on Chinese TV. That's it.
Unless they have the new "mole man" type submarines that can tunnel through earth....nobody is getting through the Suez canal or past the straights of gibraltar without the USA navy knowing about it.
Especially not the Chinese subs which are still wayyyyy behind even the Russians in terms of quality.
What about the Russian sub that was camped out in the Gulf of Mexico?
That they could not find until they returned back to port?

Also, the Med is kinda hard to sneak into - there's the Suez and the Gibraltar Strait, both some of the most watched waterways in the world. So unless the heathen Chinee has portaged parts of their Navy along the Silk Road or something, no.
LOL. Those clowns get close enough to sniff a beach we blow em outta the water. The US controls the sea and air. China aint doing doodly but getting a news piece out. Hell they don't really care much anymore they're off to Africa to get their fruits.
.... and the next day China quits buying our debt, and OUR fleet is stopped dead in the water because there is not money to bring it home. The Chinese will demand Barack sign over the deed to most of the United States as collateral on the debt it already holds.
The Brits controlled the seas not too long ago, go look for them now. Cowered in their little island. Obama has seriously degraded our standing in the world. It's a wonder China hasn't forcibly retaken Taiwan already.
