Oh you can also bet Iran is being included even if not publicly.
Quite publically, actually. Iran WANTS us to strike. It's in their crazed interests. Obama needs to back off. Yesterday. He's being suckered in. A moron could see this trap. Tactically, he's already screwed, if we do anything, the enemy is waiting for it, and ready.
Then, Iran has us caught up in a net, with no allies backing us, world and home opinion against the action, and facing the Russians and Chinese militarily and economically. Then, the Iranians can take a leadership role in a new Islamic alliance in the region, and grab up gobs of power and influence. If we are going to hit anyone, it should be Iran. Hard, fast and often, with no forewarning.
Iran is not crazy. Iran wants security more than anything and they think their best way to get that is to get nuclear weapons because they believe that will make them safe from attack. They are carefully weighting the odds of if the US will actually intervene to prevent them from getting nuclear weapons but the Republicans seem hell bent on destroying America's creditability, mostly because they are stupid and obsessed with "defeating Obama" while completely ignoring the rest of the world.
If the US meaningfully intervenes in Syria to punish them using chemical weapons then Iran will be forced to believe the US would meaningfully intervene to prevent them from getting nukes. If the Republicans get their way, if the US does nothing, if the Republicans force the US to abandon their principles, then Iran will rightly conclude the US is all talk and no action, that the US will be unwilling to take action to prevent them getting nukes, and then Iran will almost certainly go straight for nukes. As always, Republicans play domestic games and America's security suffers. The vote is nothing less than will we let Iran get nukes? Tea baggers say yes (because they are too stupid to understand little things like consequence for their actions) and every sane person says no; who will win?
The Brits controlled the seas not too long ago, go look for them now. Cowered in their little island. Obama has seriously degraded our standing in the world. It's a wonder China hasn't forcibly retaken Taiwan already.
Britain still has a formidable navy and should not be messed with.

[MOD CUT/flaming]
This makes no sense to me. Military actions are hardly governed by principals.

The Chinese have shown interest already that they want to be more involved in world affairs and in particular in the Middle East. Also Islam is a recognized religion in China so that be another reason for them to want to have a hand in Middle East affairs.
