IF it turns out she added the N word to the receipt in a malicious attempt to get notoriety at his expense, then, yes, she needs to be charged with a hate crime and fined heavily. Having the guy sue her and garnish her wages is certainly fair, too. He should even get some compensation from Red Lobster for their part in hiring the woman.
Its not even a race thing, everybody is looking at it as a case of right and wrong. That people like her still exist in the world( again IF it turns out she faked the incident) is what makes it impossible to say racism is completely dead. Its still a shadowy ghost plaguing us and as long as people try to perpetuate it by manufacturing it for their own gain we'll never be able to say its gone.
What criminal crime did she commit? Racial hoaxes aren't crimes.
Yep. I am typically around a 20% tipper but on a (very) few occasions I have left no tip.....but before doing so I make sure that it's not the kitchens fault or that they are grossly understaffed etc. That's not the wait-persons fault.
I'm sure in a week or so the full truth will come out.
At this point, nobody knows for sure whom is telling the truth and is taking sides out of their on personal biases.
Agree. I've had some bad food, but good service and I did tip the waitress. I told her I wished the food was as good as her service. Another time our food was ruined by our waitress. We ordered an appetizer, small soup, and main meal. Our appetizer (chips and dip) didn't get to us until after the soup (which had been sitting out for so long it was now room temperature) and took forever to get to us. We had to ask another waitress about our order and she was the one who brought it out. We had to send it back and it was obvious they popped it in the microwave instead of giving us a fresh bowl. The other waitress also brought us our appetizers which came just before our meal. Thankfully the meal arrived hot and good. Several customers actually walked out without having gotten their food. I later found out that waitress was so horrible she didn't even last a week because they were loosing customers and money. The customers would show up, order their food, waitress sent the order back, and they didn't see her or their food so they walk out.
I wonder if this will turn out like the HS student that received racial threats and it turned out that he did it himself.
If this turns out that the waitress wrote that herself that just adds to the growing trend that seems to be increasing.
It's like the pink headband hoax that ending up with the mom to the loony bin. News outlets have got to quit promoting these stories without finding out the truth.
This guy and his new bride are getting death threats now.
I don't know if anyone will sue. Seeing the interview, I think he just wants to clear his name and put it behind him. But it appears the waitress and her family have a lot more money than the customer. And both of her parents have helped spread the story.
The waitress graduated from one of the top high schools in the nation and lives in one of the wealthiest counties in the nation, so there might be some assets there if the guy decided to sue. But my guess would be that he won't.
This is all assuming that he didn't write the slur.
Clearly two different people wrote none, and N****r. One possibility is that whomever was seated with the young man may have written it. I'm not sure why people are jumping on the waitress, she may very well be innocent. And aren't we presumed innocent in America still?
