That article is useless. It's loaded with complete propaganda and BS. Typical for Salon. We are headed to becoming a banana republic, but those 10 reasons aren't the real ones.
They forgot to mention uncontrolled illegal immigration, debt/spending, collapse of the family unit and gangs running wild.

I was not impressed with their list either and the only points that are leading us to decline is point 5 Mussolini fascism and and point 6 high UE with most gains in job creation is PT low paying jobs.

I agree with their list but there's a lot more than 10 ways we're becoming a banana republic.

Illegal immigration has become a non issue since the economy crashed and there is no jobs for the illegals, they have for the most part stoped coming.
The issue is just cover to keep the Border Patrol checkpoints open to roust US citizens and do illegal drug searches.
It is our own police state we have to fear.

Not raising the debt ceiling would make us a true banana republic.

You need to justify that statement.

Sweet, maybe they will have even more sales now. Their dress shirts fit me pretty well.

While I agree that the economy crashing has changed the employment picture for illegals, I not convinced we're at a "net zero" situation as far as them not coming into the U.S.

No. A banana republic is a small 'democratic' country whose economy is driven by exports of some particular cash crop.

None of the 10 items address this basic prerequisite for being a 'banana republic'
