About how the shooter got the weapon into the Navy yard .......
They have "check points", but if you have a military ID or a Contractor pass (issued by the government for that day) then there is no real check on the vehicle. They check the pass, look in the window, ask you where you are going and that's about it. This is pretty much the case with many military installations.
My SO worked in a "secure building" and so does my son .... both with big companies, and one of those is a very large complex similar to the Navy Yard, but they are Private, not Government.
In the private sector - you can't drive a car on the campus. You drive through the check point to park your vehicle and then to an office to present your credentials and then through scanners or whatever. Employees have to have a parking pass to get into the parking lots and then have to walk into the campus which is surrounded by a security fence.
Hard to imagine how this shooter and Nidal Hasan were both able to bring in personal weapons on to a Military installation. Kids can't walk into a school without going through a scanner.
Yeah if people are saying two shooters are down, can we get links to back that up?
I have a buddy who's locked down in the DC Navy Yard at the moment and I'd like to give him some good news.
Bad Idea. He needs to focus on the instructions he's receiving from his force protection. They have immediate access to information.
The media right now is on a mad scramble to find any scrap of news. Anything reported now may be wrong and would just add to the confusion on the ground.
The shooting happened in an Atrium style building - shooter was on the 3rd or 4th floor balcony hallway shooting down to the first floor cafeteria. It was all open.
Sickening if true.....I have been in that building atrium/cafeteria several times. Gives me chills thinking about the prospect of what happened there this morning.
Yes keep getting conflicting info.....DC police said looking for possible 2nd shooter somewhere..... but federal officals say no. Police act on leads.....and thus not confirmed if true 2nd shooter.....but said they were looking for a white male in military uniform with a possible handgun.
