They've positioned themselves on the right side, knowing very well that Obamacare is a disaster. It's obvious to all but the utterly brainwashed. When it falls apart, they can point to what they tried to do to stop it.
ACA won't fall apart. There has been too much private preparation done now for it to fail.
After the prolonged fight getting the bill passed, ACA has a lot of imperfections, for sure. But once the law is fully in effect, there is no doubt that the law will gradually be changed by modification. This is very common with such laws that affect everyone.
The same is true with others. ACA is no different. In 10 years, people will look back to 2013 and say "The Republican party destroyed itself over THIS? Why?"
I'd say Obama's doing a good job with his exemptions. keep it up and its everyone has a exception. Baucus (D) did call it a train wreck for no reason. Unions are mad as hell it seems since they read the bill.
If Republicans were really serious about health care reform they would look at all of the government spending Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, and VA instead of focusing on a small part the ACA. Those programs are about one trillion a year. By contrast the ACA is projected to cost 1.1 trillion over 10 years. Why talk about the other spending when your base is benefitting by those programs.
As a political party, the right wing of government has nothing to offer so they fall back on obstruction, threats of obstruction and fear mongering. Instead of reinventing themselves to be more appealing and palatable, as they vowed to do after Obama's 2012 victory, they have made a decision to go so far right and extreme that they are pandering to the only base that they have the penchant to appeal to...extremists and the very wealthiest 1%. With that electorate, what chance do you thnk they have in 2016?

Baucus was talking about the implementation not going fast enough back in April. Baucus now says it doesn't look like a train wreck.. Republicans should go take a look at the exchanges. I am sure Baucus has. . By the way whats wrong with competition?? You do know that some of the people who are opposed to the ACA are hospitals, doctors, and some of the smaller insurance companies. The Republican fight is like trying to keep Target, Walmart, Costco etc out of a town to protect the local merchants. Republicans are pretty hypocritical on this since more than half are covered by a government plan.

You're right about that.
Republican voters seem to agree. A new McClatchy-Marist poll finds that Americans oppose cuts to Medicare or Medicaid by a margin of 80 to 18 percent, including 73 percent of Republicans and 75 percent of Independents. In fact, just 28 percent of Tea Pary suppoerts backed the plan, while 75 percent opposed it:
I'd bet this is more a libertarian issue disguised as a republican issue than a pure republican consensus. It follows the Libertarian agenda more closely than the mainstream republican position. For some republicans on the far right, killing Obamacare has become a religious crusade, while others see the value to society and more importantly, to their constituents.

Very misleading poll. It lumps Medicare in with Medicaid. Medicare recipients pay premiums for decades to qualify for beneifts. Medicaid recipients do not pay premiums for decades to qualify for Medicaid.
