pollution exists in spite of regs and the fedguv is a major contributor itself. Its role has become the decider in who gets to pollute and keeping you fooled that it is looking out for you.

Property rights.
You damage my person or property, the court system punishes you and/or the marketplace puts you out.

Appreciate the self-portrait. Kinda makes sense as to why you can back up your claim.

For the most part, the government adds an onerous level of bureaucracy on top of every program and organization ... while only adding 'administration', not value! At the same time, consider the number of career politicians that become multi-multi-millionaires while in office, even though their political office salaries alone are not that high. Finally, once a program or organization is funded, it never goes away ... and never spends less than it's funding (lest they lose funding the next year). The give-away programs likewise grow every year ... with no corresponding income increase (mostly based on pandering for votes).

Thomas Jefferson put it quite succinctly: "May God protect us from politicians who take our money under the pretense of taking care of us."

The only solution I see is strict term limits at every level (some say that the 'ballot box' is a term limit, but, that's not really true! All it does is perpetuate a form of government where every career politician only needs consider his local (voting) constituency ... with little or no regard for the country.

The limitation of entry into occupations, through licensing, is one of many problems the Southern European economies face in their turnaround. Licensing is but a form of regulation, and taxation.

That's not to mention that you're trying to present an editorial, which is a one sided opinion, as fact. The crux of the story also isn't that government is the problem, but the companies with a vested interest in the status quo harm small businesses. That's not a new development.

Instead of posting one offs to try to prove some emotional idea you have in your head, maybe doing some actual research before coming up with an opinion would work out better for you.

I gave you two sterling examples. Lead paint was pretty well banned in Europe in the 30s but continued into the 70s in the USA due to a lack of regulation. And no one ended up with the bill to fix it.

Asbestos was similar though here at least some reparations were paid. However the regulation of asbestos was decades after it should have been tightly regulated.

In both of these situations the damage done far exceeded the net worth of those doing the damage. Leaving the society on the hook for the damage.

There are multiple other examples of polluted areas left by companies to be dealt with by society. See the super fund.

There is no single definition of small business. The range in number of employees can and does vary by sector, from 0-500. Joe the Plumber is a small business. So are the thousands of investment management/venture capital firms some with $ hundreds of billions of assets under management.

There's reasons why, despite promises to get tough with businesses who employ illegal workers and secure our borders, the can has been kicked forward for 30 years. It has not mattered who sat the oval or held the majority.

Small business is the top employer of illegal workers. To get tough on employment of illegals is a War on Small Business. Politicians know this.

Dependent on sources, 50-70% of all small businesses fail within the first year. Failure, is attributed to :

Inexperience of owner
Poor Management
Inadequate capital/credit
Lousy location
Competition

When people fail, they have a choice, learn from the experience or blame. Reaction to failure is a reasonable predictor of future outcomes.
