They can show a picture of the "scary gun" to get the very limited attention of their target ( pun intended) audience.
You have to understand that the same audience actually believes we have no guns laws and that there are no background checks.

So, misconception of what really is the assault in this. Its the criminal, not the gun.
Right, but by blaming guns the politicians can look like they are doing something. It's far, far easier to deflect, spin, and obfuscate the issue of violence by blaming guns. If politicians addressed the issue of violence they will have to address some unpleasant facts, so it's easier to let the poor kill themselves while blaming guns.

The AR is the current media demon is all. After Patrick Purdy and Stockton it was the AK that was the root of all evil. Actually, that was the beginning of the "assault rifle" frenzy. Tbe bigh tech evolution of the AR has made it even easier to whip up fear over because of looks.

The AR is also affordable to shooters on a budget, and that just won't do, ya see. As far as the current media frenzy over it, I try and remember that it is not required they know what they are talking about to comment.

Excellent recent article about the AR-15 here: Addled by the AR-15

Intelligent reasoning, and it addresses both sides of the issue.

Looks only.
.....and they love to demonize, it's one of their methods.
That holds for people too as well.

Let's not forget nor misinform the unknowing that the AR-15 is NOT an assault weapon.

It does not meet the definition, though there are those that do not want the general public to know that for political purposes and associated agendas.

I have a K98, 8mm mauser, thats far more dangerous than an AR-15. With the Hardened round, (Tungsten core), the round can penetrate a bit more than 3/4 of an inch of plain steel at a range of 550 yards. (That's 5 ½ football fields!) That means a kevlar vest has zero chance of stopping that round. While it only has a 5 round magazine, it's a far more lethal weapon.

The problem is, Politicians see a wood stock, and a bolt action, and automatically place it in a class that is less lethal than the mean looking black (Mattel toy) AR15. (AND folks, I already know, Mattel didn't make the AR15 OR the M16 so don't rag on me, I call it a mattel toy, because of it's plastic pieces).

Actually IIRC Mattel made the original stocks for the Eugene Stoner rifle.

Because it is black and scary, and it can kill people.

It is entirely understandable that liberal gun grabbers, with the irrational, emotional, knee jerk reaction to a useful tool, would demonize such a thing, especially when doing so furthers there objective of shredding apart the U.S. Constitution.

Liberal do not like the ar15 because they are black and scary and in common usage. This is why some paint them different colors, think of it as camouflage to liberals.
