This is about the Mexican drug cartels and how they have taken over at least half of the country. I have heard from travel 'experts' that most of Mexico is safe to travel in. Take a look at the map in the beginning of the article. That does not look safe to me.
The article says towns are trying to fight back. Then that statement is refuted by those who say those people who are supposedly defending their towns are also in with the cartels.
Could this happen here? I mean, they are in the military, they have paid off so many police, even in small town America. There are constant rumors about some politicians being bought off - probably to both look the other way and to be staunchly against legalization. Our military has on many occasions been caught supplying arms to them, so that's probably an ongoing thing. Cartels have kidnapped people in the US and brought them across the border for ransom.
Maybe having so many citizens armed is a good thing?
. . . products travel north into the U.S., where 90% of illegal drugs emanate from Mexico, according to FBI statistics.
It's just impossible that so many drugs can enter this country without our government being in on it. Look at how few Muslim terrorist attacks there are. If we want to crack down on a situation we certainly can.
So, given that elements in the US are already playing ball with these idiots, what do we do about it?
Yes and much of that war in chigago is about drugs from Mexico. The sinaloa cartel controls chicago.
The war in Chicago is as much about drugs, as it is about turf, only people who have ever lived in Chicago know this. No one cartel owns anything in Chicago.

The US security apparatus is better at breaking up organized criminal operations than Mexico, but is pretty ineffective at stopping smaller, more disorganized gangs from warring with each other.
You wouldn't see a Mexican-style cartel "takeover" of a particular city. Instead, you'd have a situation like New Orleans with dozens of "sets" shooting at each other over territory, money, disrespect, etc., and end up with a murder rate just as bad as many parts of the Mexican drug corridor, but with less organization at the top. That's how these things work in the US.
Yes I believe this could be in our future, the very near future. People talk about this, but then they're called conspiracy theorist.
