I am actually not a big gun rights person ban them, hand them out to everyone I am basically indifferent. Yet I find the reasoning of gun control proponents fascinating. Many are liberals and after each horrible incident they demand we ban guns all the while ignoring the commonalities among those behind the shootings.
Also when Muslim terrorists commit another attack liberals go out of their way to point out not all Muslims are terrorists. Fair enough but not all guns are used in mass murdering rampages. So why do you want to ban guns but draw the line at banning Muslims?
A Fox News liberal is catching heat from liberals because of stating we should ban mosques and visas to Muslim students. Now the banning mosque thing is a non-starter and unconstitutional I wouldn't support but limiting student visas to Muslims is worthy of legitimate discussion IMHO. http://www.politico.com/blogs/media/...ms-173385.html
I think part of the reason that people immediately cry for "gun bans' is because, statistically, in countries that have them, death by guns is quite a bit lower, as are mass shootings (naturally). It is the kneejerk reaction to stopping the violence.
Regulating people's minds (mental illness) and putting in tons of regulations to keep guns out of the hands of wackadoodles is difficult.
So, religion is a state of mind and thinking. You can't "ban" people's ideology. Sure, you can make it illegal, I suppose, but you can't stop the will of a person who wants to murder. But you can try to make it harder for him to do so.

Prohibiting law-abiding citizens from owning a means of self-defense is considered to be making it harder for those with criminal intent? Do tell how this logic works.

Did I state that I wanted to prohibit law abiding citizens from owning guns to making it harder for those with criminal intent? No, I did not. I am trying to explain to the to OP why someone might call for a gun ban. Because it has been proven to work in greatly reducing gun deaths. You and I might not agreen with an all-out gun ban, but it works. So that's why people call for one.
If this country does not do that (and I suspect it will not) then you turn to regulating people.
But, in all seriousness, the original question was silly and an exaggeration.

Controlling people is very difficult. On the other hand, if the terrorists in Kenya had been armed with knives, would they have been able to murder so many people?
