The point is that you cannot buy those cheap plans anymore due to Obamacare mandated coverages.

Who cares! If you are young and healthy and dont go to the drs but want coverage in case something major happens you want a high deductable high copay policy because its the cheapest monthly cost. Its called a catistropic policy. If you go to drs 1 time or less a yr and dont have scrips why pay for a deductable you will never meet.

Yes, the ACA institutes a basic standard of care requirement that all insurance policies must cover.

The new rules protect consumers by setting a minimum standard (“low bar”) for both benefit packages and cost-sharing requirements. These standards won’t limit consumers’ real choices; plans can certainly exceed those minimum standards. What these standards will do is help consumers avoid inadequate plans that don’t cover enough or unaffordable out-of-pocket costs.

The essentials that must be covered include: Ambulatory Care, Emergency Care, Hospitalization, Maternity Care, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment, Prescription Drugs, Rehabilitative and Habilitative Services, Laboratory Services, Preventive Services and Chronic Disease Management and Children’s Dental and Vision Care.

The policies that will disappear don't meet these new standards.
