Does anyone really care if the government shuts down? Social security and Medicare are mandatory spending programs so those checks will keep going out. Unemployment checks will keep going out and the 47 million of you on food stamps will keep getting them. Hell, even the president keeps getting paid, go figure.

So what's the downside? Mostly the military. Veterans receiving compensation for service- or combat-related wounds and injuries won't get paid come mid-October (now why isn't that an entitlement?) but the House passed a CR 422-0 to make sure the military keeps getting paid...anyone want to bet Harry Reid tries to keep the military a hostage in this mess?

The sequester has taught us one thing...the government lies when it comes to spending. Let's see how bad a government shutdown really is.

And check out this USA Today article - it will help control the hysteria.

66 questions and answers about the government shutdown

Except, estimated that it costs taxpayers about $1 billion per week of shutdown.

Shutting it down now won't hurt most folks. I live in a military town. Mom, 2 year old girl, and their husband won't be paid.

I think we need a larger budget deal for the next 5 years. I'm tired of a budget battle every 2 months. Republicans are wrong for focusingson Obamacare, dems are wrong for not tackling the budget for years. Continuing resolutions are stupid

I agree, and I find it disgraceful that the military gets caught up in these kinds of confrontations. If entitlements are untouchable, so should the salaries of the men and women who defend this country.

All they need to do is remove the debt ceiling and your wish of increased spending can come true each and every year from now on.

I read that the state of AZ will lose one million dollars a day in tourist spending because parks including the Grand Canyon will be closed. That hurts small towns like Williams and Tusayan that depend on those dollars. I'll bet those business people care.

How about our elected officials put on their big boy/girl pants and do their jobs. One party continues to operate on the premise of it's my way or the highway, i'll take my football and go home. You can't have it your way every time.

The first group who should have their salaries suspended is every elected official who is responsible for this mess, whats good for the goose is good for the gander....

The military will be paid if there is a shutdown, that bill was passed today unanimously.

No, the senate didn't pass that. The military won't be paid right away. They'll get an iou, but no check.
