Very analytical, scientific conclusion.

Thanks for having the courage to speak the truth about greater than 1/2 of the 314 million or so Americans.

Again, I think you are referring to the American south. In the northeast (I don't know about the rest of the country) we don't have that many people who call themselves "Christians" meaning evangelist extremists. I don't think we're very racist or homophobic either. We have gay marriage so how are we homophobic?

I don't think the south contains 1/2 of the US population.

Your experiences at living in a southern state differ greatly than mine.

Anyways, I was referring to Whatsthenews well studied opinion- "...... A lot (the majority) of Americans are racist and homophobic and and combine that with being "Good Christians... ."

I also believe those that have never lived in the south, particualry the more populated areas, are no more in touch with present day reality than those who have never spent time in NJ/NYC.

It's like thinking Brooklyn is best characterized by the characters in "Saturday Night Fever" or "Welcome Back Cotter".

And as far as NJ'ians, fugeddaboutit.

Many find it easier to just go with loaded stereotypes.

Not my problem either way, people can think how they wish.

I not sure how you define "evangelistic extremeist" so I can't add much to that piece of the discussion although I do know many Christians.

The start of my post said I was in NC. I was contrasting with the post from the member who lives in Cali - with particular regard to the part of his post I highlighted regarding people of different races going about ..... And something about a melting pot.exactly
"Whatsthenews well studied opinion" is exactly what it is!

I didn't say it was scientific evidence ( I'll be very clear when I provide such evidence and provide a link to the source- and it will be a reliable data source- it was based on my experience of living here.

Oh and BTW - no need to put "roll eyes" for me- I'm fully trained in sarcasm.

That's what I was referring to also but my computer doesn't want to double quote so I got misunderstood. Sorry.

I do not think the majority of Americans are racist, homophobic and combine that with being "Good Christians." To ME, "Christian" has lost a lot of its meaning anyway the way it is now applied mostly to religious extremists who live in the south. But I do know of a few "Christians" who live in the south who are wonderful people and I know of a few in the north who are good people also.

Yeh, I think the big problem is people stereotyping this entire country based upon one area, usually from something they've seen on tv. We Americans, of course, know that everyone in the UK dresses and acts as though they're in a Jane Austin novel. The Brits think all of us live in the southern US and are racist "Christians." Or do we all live in California and go surfing every day when we can break away from hanging out with Hollywood stars. As if the world isn't crazy enough!!

Actually the British form their opinions first hand. If I'm not mistaken the US government is partially shut down because of a small group of Christian fundamentalists, namely the Tea Party who are racist and homophobic.

It's less religion and race than saving America from impeding socialism. Government-controlled health care is upon us!

There is racism in Britain. I grew up in a small village in Kent, and the racism there was very severe. To give you some examples. When I was walking my little brother to school, some chavs drove past shouting "go back to where came from! you black ****s". In school when I was in year 8, some olders kids used to call me a "******", every time they saw me. My brother said that his friends would often say quite odd comments like " I don't like black people, but you are different". All of that is just a few racist experiences I had in this country, there is a lot more, but I'm not writing a book lol. I don't how this compares to the United States, but I thought this would give some perspective of how racism can be like in this country. Also, note, that I now live in London, and there I have experienced very little racism, so this may just apply to British towns or villages.
