Bill Maher's little speech on how California leads the country.

New Rule: Conservatives Who Love to Brag About American Exceptionalism Must Come Here to California | Bill Maher

Not that I agree with him on everything, but some things are sure great.

All I remember, before hearing this, was how much California's economy was in the hole when Schwarzenegger left. Now, it appears, they are thriving.

How much did they raise taxes?
Where did they cut spending?

Jerry Brown made huge cuts in spending just like conservatives are calling for on a national level to get our house back in order. Democrats in California were quite upset when Jerry began to cut tons of their pet projects but that's what it take to get things under control.

Admittedly, I am not a Jerry Brown fan (you can insert just about anyone's name in there, too, for that matter), but THIS is how simple it really is:

"For the next four years, we're talking about a balanced budget. We're talking about living within our means," Brown said last month when he unveiled his budget. "This is new. This is a breakthrough."

Can someone with more knowledge than me of federal budgets tell me why we DON'T have a balanced budget at the federal level? I hate to say it, but when you raise revenues and cut spending, surpluses happen.

California doesn't have a couple wars or bloated military spending for starters.

That's true. It doesn't seem to matter what party the President is in, there are forces in government that seem to want eternal war with countries that have not harmed us. One mid eastern country after another, and in some we even are pushing for arming terrorists, the very same guys who are staging horrific events in civilized countries. It seems as though what we really are trying to do is to promote instability in these countries, turning factions after each other.

What I would like to see is some accounting of who holds the wealth of the country both before and after our intervention. Is control of these things changing hands? That's probably a clue as to why we really intervene.

We armed them all in the first place. Only back then, their attention was on the Russians.
