If you mean LA as in Los Angeles, crime is not that bad. It actually has less crime than most comparable large cities (except for NYC) in the USA. I live in a suburb of LA (Glendale). We are attached right onto LA proper and our crime rate is very low. In the latest crime report, we ranked #21 on the list of safest cities. We've got a population of over 200,000 in our city. I'd like to see the city in Texas with a similar population that has a similar crime rate.

Currently if that was to happen, the shooter would be charged with murder. The laws of Texas changed in September 2007.
Since the laws changed, I think the repo man would be allowed to shoot back since the repo man has a legal right to be where he is and he can "stand his ground" without any duty to retreat. In this case, the homeowner would be dead.

Completely agree.. The repo man has a general right to protect himself.
Overall, the man in question, will be hung out to dry "legally" and the only way he will get off, is to find someone, (they only need to find one) EXTREMELY sympathetic to his "thought process", which I dont see happening considering that there is varios degrees of "murder".
I suspect that, since legally its cut and dry the man would want to cut a deal and plead guilty to some smaller crime, or claim temporarily insanity. Will be interesting to see how much time he ends up with.

Well, as someone who used to work for the PD and would occasionally tow people's cars for legal violations (blocking a fire hydrant, unpaid registration of over 1 year, etc) I can say that the average person who doesn't pay their registration, car payments, etc is generally what most folks would consider to be an "unstable a-hole". Plus, everyone who wasn't violent would try to play "Judge Judy" and plead their hard-luck case... not really the repo-man's job.
If you listened to the 911 tape RE: the OP, the guy was set on shooting them on principle, not because he was in danger.
While a shooting is still a rare result, a huge argument (and possibly a fist-fight) are likely if you just say "hey, I'm here to take the car back that you quit paying for".

As thrilled as Texans are with this "castle doctrine," I just see it as a right to murder someone if you choose to do so. There is nothing in the doctrine to stop arguments and disagreements from escalating to murder. And since it seems like the vast majority of Texans are armed, it just means anyone who passes through the state needs to be armed too. God forbid you take someone's parking space and they take it as a personal affront.
