I can read opinion polls too. And I know that most Americans oppose privatizing Social Security. Do you?

And besides: does this public opposition mean that "mob rule" should now be the way that public policy is set? If poll results had been used all along to decide what laws get passed and who becomes President, we would have been spared the first GWBush administration at the very least.

Ok buddy, so who is paying for the extra security to keep the memorial closed?

Lots of memorials around my city that dont require any staffing.

Keep up the spite

Love a picture I saw earlier of a person holding a sign next to the barricades saying, "Mr. President, tear down this wall."

You got proof that these people did this? From what I have read, their escorts moved the barricades out of the way.

Thank you. This is the reality. And also they're using "non-essential" to mean the same thing. Non-essential doesn't mean your work is not needed or has no value. It's all about how your position is funded. Many are funded directly via Congressional appropriations. No appropriations, no pay.....hence, government shutdown.

I'm one of the 800,000 furloughed people. I'm a very real person with very real bills to pay. Fortunately I have no children and don't own a home. I'm one of those wretched Millenials everyone likes to hate on, so I only run the risk of defaulting on my student loans and getting evicted from my apartment for non-payment among other things. People don't understand that when you accept a job with the federal government, you have to make an oath. Once you take that oath they pretty much own you: you can't just jump back into your field and get a job. If it's related to anything you worked on in federal government you can be majorly fined and can also serve jail time. Also, to even participate in outside activity (e.g., other work), we must receive approval from our supervisor or ethics. This is pursuant to 5 CFR Section 5501.106(d). And guess what? Supervisors and ethics officials were also furloughed. I can't even get a job in my field while on furlough. It's beyond frustrating.

I work in healthcare policy for HHS with a bunch of clinicians: nurses, doctors, etc. When this is over, all of the accumulated work will still be there, and we will be expected to take it all in stride. We are already working understaffed. This is not 1996.....I doubt they're going to pay any furloughed person anything, either. I've been asked how many days I am furloughed. The answer is all day, every day, no pay....indefinitely.

Finally, government shutdown is mandated by the Constitution if there is no appropriation made by Congress. There wasn't one. So, Congress shut us down via the Constitution.

For the record, the order to Barrycade the memorials came from the White House, not Congress.
Now they are not. please contact your house representitive and tell him you want the government funded.

I liked how Bachman and a few other Teabirchers ran outside to the barricades to make political hay of the closures they created and now blame on the President.

Now the parrots are all squawking their neatly packaged and easy to swallow talking points.
