I think the amount of volume on the websites today is due to the fact that the American public have been SO underinformed on what it really going on with the ACA, that they are going on the sites to see what it's all about.
The public has been incredibly and intentionally misinformed by those who are against the ACA.

I have not read the entire thread, so I apologize if my comment is a duplicate.

Regarding the OP's initial post. I can see why there are so many signing up for this insurance. There are quite a few citizens who don't have coverage because they cannot afford to pay the premiums, due to their pre-existing conditions or simply because insurance is too expensive. Some are able to obtain Medicaid but are too proud to apply for that. Not everyone wants free government assistance. Some still like to pay their own way but aren't able to do it, right now. I can see why the Affordable Care Act is popular.

Thats just it. These are the people who didn't have insurance before. Are they required to pay for it? No wonder they want it if it is free to them. I would too.

I do see that flaw. And I agree if you have more people covered it will cost more. But if you make more you shouldn't be charged more. However it may mean a person with higher income is covered in more areas. They lower income might not have as much such as a specialist coverage just a partial.

The problem is not that I don't want to help you pay YOUR bill. The problem is that you don't want to pay your OWN!

I gave birth when I was 21 without a penny and without a job and without health insurance. The hospital/doctor bills were enormous. I got a job and it took me two years to pay the bills, but I did pay them. That's the way I was raised. If everyone in this society had that attitude, then it would make sense to be a "mutually beneficial society".
I do pay my own bills.

I always have to laugh at conservatives who assume that every single soul who supports social safety net programs is a deadbeat. Because it really is funny to watch people completely not understand empathy, sympathy and community. Except it's also rather depressing.

Anyway, I always pay my own bills, but if someone's having a hard time, I prefer not to watch them suffer just because my country is full of selfish, greedy conservatives. I'd rather know that my taxes are helping my fellow citizens. Even you.

Social Security started at 1% for employee only, then then they added self employed, and now standing at 12.4% combined. Medicare is 2.9% only limit to earned income and now apply to all income.
Exactly.

The ACA won't solve it though because of all the Illegals here. Before, the people who had insurance were paying for those that never as well as the illegals. Now the same will happen. Except those with insurance, will now still be paying for the illegals and the subsidies of those getting "cheap" insurance.
And illegals are flocking here in the hopes of Amnesty.
The 80% of people not paying before weren't all made up of illegals. The costs will still come down. 20% was paying for 100% - with more people having insurance, then it could be more like 70-80% paying for the 100%. It's not perfect, but it will still bring down the costs since far more people would be paying.

Even those that are for it are uninformed.

I had a debate yesterday with a poster who didn't know about the high out of pocket costs.
They thought insurance kicked in immediately, not after the individual paid their $1-$12K out of pocket costs first.

Many don't know about these high deductibles.
And the government is not going out of their way to truly inform them.
All they talk about is the low premiums.

And the survey says, 'the number question asked by those callers is how to avoid the penalty and get free insurance'.

The costs will not come down. There is no reason to lower costs when they are getting paid.
