Great idea - let's lower the threshold for deadly force to "shoplifting".

Sure we can't lower it further?

Don't want to get shot? Don't jump in line.
Don't want to get shot? Don't run a yellow light.
Don't want to get shot? Don't walk around with a smart look on your face.
Don't want to get shot? Don't talk back to police officers.

There are reasons behind society establishing thresholds for using deadly force.

I think stealing a horse in Texas at one time was a capital offense long ago.

Don't steal and the problem is solved.

I'm not justifying it, but can you imagine what it's like to work in a convenience store in a gang-infested area? Probably a little jumpy.
"The station reports Corpus Christi police said a known gang member came into Duve's store on Saturday night, grabbed a couple of packs of beer and tried to walk out without paying". He didn't run, sneak out, nor did he hold the store up. He just walked out. The article is scant with info, but I think (as with most stories) there is far more to this than just what was given to us.

Thresholds for deadly force? Stealing gang members is as good as any threshold.

Why just this morning I saw this lady exceed the speed limit.

So I followed her to work and ran her down in the parking lot.

Uh oh, gotta go....I just saw my co-worker walking off with a company pen.....

From another poster the guy was a gang member....oh well he met his maker! Maybe, the guy will do better in his after life, something he didn't know how to do here. Gang members are low on the chain, who cares if one goes down!

Looks like the store owner sent a message....... mess with him and his you'll get yours!

I read this story and agree with the police. His response was way over the top and criminal.

Kind of sounds like you're having to convince someone stealing is just wrong and things can happen. Makes one wonder maybe stealing is okay with the poster as long as their not stealing from him.

If the store owner knew he was a gang member it leaves your theory dead in the water!

In those days, horses were vital to survival. Stealing a horse could mean stealing a family's means for putting food on the table.
