The very question is a fool's errand to begin with. Not surprisingly, Democrats are now obsessed with the question.

Anyway, if one side is trying to negotiate a deal, and the other is saying no, we get 100% or nothing, it is apparent where the problem lies.

Both.

Equally annoyed with both parties.

I wish the media would stop depicting this as "two sides" quarrelling.

This is nothing more than a group of anti-government ideologues obstructing a law that was already deemed constitutional by the supreme court.

The only positive I see in this situation is that perhaps this could severely damage the reputation of house republicans and they will lose the 2014 midterm elections.

No doubt their antics are appealing to their fringe supporters, while mainstream Americans further distance themselves from these drama queens.

Keep digging Republicans, keep digging.

I am grateful there were once ideologues in this nation that did what they could to obstruct the constitutionally upheld laws that allowed slavery. And it is two sides quarreling.

Both. But not in equal measure. Good governance requires negotiation and compromise to achieve results. Neither side is willing to either at this point and so the result is no result.

[its like the Middle East except its here in Middle America...]

Excuse me if I get it wrong, but wasn’t there some document that said governments were instituted among men to (a) secure rights, and (b) govern those who consent?

And thus anything that the government is doing that is NOT explicitly securing rights (*as in prosecuting deliberate injury, etc) must be derived from consent of the governed.

And if one has given consent to be a socialist serf, via enrollment into FICA / Soc Sec (no law compels participation, nor punishes non-participants), then it is entirely lawful for the government to compel volunteers to increase their expenditures for the benefit of claimants on the bankrupted U.S. government.

ACA is nothing more than another covert tax, not unlike FICA, enacted in the midst of an economic depression. But this time, it is under the guise of “health care,” instead of “social security.”
You do know that you can withdraw, don’t you?
......................
“The Social Security Act does not require an individual to have a Social Security Number (SSN) to live and work within the United States, nor does it require an SSN simply for the purpose of having one...”
- - - The Social Security Administration

......................
"Some Americans will be exempt from the health insurance mandate, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
These are people who can't afford it: For example, people who make so little they don't have to file a tax return are exempt."
Obamacare open enrollment: What you need to know - CNN.com

......................
AHEM - - - what most Americans are unaware of, is that ACA, being a TAX, is linked with FICA. Yes, that's right. Your consent, via prior enrollment into voluntary national socialism IMPOSES the obligation to insure yourself.

That's why ACA wasn't ruled unconstitutional, despite the common perception that it wasn't quite kosher. Nontaxpayers are not obligated, nor can they be punished for failure to get insurance under ACA.

So who is really to blame for the shutdown?
YOU ARE !

I don't think that any of the Politicians care .... and more importantly, the American citizens don't care.
This is all part of the "war on something or the other" - real lives of real people are being effected and the Partisans all think it's a "game" of some sort.

A POX on all their houses.
