I knew it, half of the Civilian Workers at the Department of Defense are not needed. Of the 800,000 Civilian Workers connected to the Pentagon about half of them are considered NON ESSENTIAL.

No wonder the defense budget is so high!

I bet hundreds of thousands of needless defense contractors are being laid off too.

Your definition of essential vs. non-essential needs some work.

If the law mandated your business be closed, how many of your employees would be deemed essential?

It's funny how Republicans say a government employee working for the Department of Commerce is a bureaucrat, but the millions of people filling the offices of the Pentagon and other DOD offices are not.

Do you think the budget problems would ever be solved if Congress were furloughed?

It doesn't matter.
They get to sit at home until Congress decides to act.
And then they will go back to work and get their back pay.

This isn't new folks.

What I think is Congress needs a dose of reality and should lose its pay during the shutdown as well as lose its medical coverage and be forced to shop like most people. They allegedly work for us, in what universe do employees have better benefits than employers?

What else can you expect when a seemingly permanent part of their platform is MORE! defense spending?

We'll see about that. This year DoD civilians took a paycut with sequestration. That's real money taken out of their bank accounts, food off their tables. Especially the younger generation filling the lower positions, they aren't making the big bucks and they took it directly on the chin. We'll see if the House votes to reinstate back pay. If not, it will force a lot of DoD civilians into debt and bankruptcy.

The military is a reliably conservative block. Walk onto any military base and you will typically see Fox News on any public TV monitor. With this, however, it may convince enough of them change their vote in the next election. It's one thing to campaign to reduce spending. It's another to screw over your most ardent supporters.

I am sure they will appreciate the chance to get their savings account cleaned out come election day.
