And they accomplished nothing. How could they not know that before the started this circus? Everyone said they would be blamed, and they did it anyway. Now everyone is blaming them, and they cave it. They'd look so much better if that had done nothing at all.

At least ..... this is my guess.
There has been no call for a tax hike by any side. Sequester has come and gone.

I'll deny it. Government spending can help increase demand in times of recession. Spending cuts are the last thing we need right now.

The Republicans are acting like the bad Unions of the 80's. The answer is let them stay out till they take the last offer or less.

They went and locked out there employees and now they want to come back to the table. The correct action is to make them come back to open the Gov't and pass the Debt ceiling for the last thing that was supported by the Dems in the Senate. Open up and maintain there budget #. Then they need to come and finalize a compromized budget.

Since lowering taxes created the deficit. It's only fair that reversing them is the answer. Certainly cutting Medicare and Social Security so billionaires can enjoy low taxes isn't the answer.

Perhaps you don't know this but spending has been flat under Obama and the number of government jobs is down.

However, the debt itself will become an issue down the road and once the economy is back on it's own footing...the debt needs to be addressed.

As Krugman says....Once the economy is chugging along on it's own...I'll become a deficit hawk. Pay down your bills when you're making money, not when you're broke.
Refreshingly lucid, for a C-D posting.

The GOP is doing everything they can to destroy what small recovery our economy has seen. The ACA is going to make healthcare affordable to millions of Americans who are unemployed or have pre existing conditions. Republicans don't give a rats ass about the sick or working poor. This debalacle with the government shut down only proves that more!

Just 5 years ago Obama's primary points were the wars and spending. That was $8T ago. Spending has been unleashed yet we still have an economy that's in growth limbo.

How much debt, and in what timeframe do we come to the realization that Keynesian economics are failing entirely. It's a ponzi scheme of top down economics, which benefits the uber-wealthy, hammers the middle class, and grows the poor class.

No matter, the FED will collapse under its own weight soon enough.

The party in control of each chamber of Congress has always been responsible for raising the debt ceiling. In the past everyone made a big spectacle about the issue and then they voted to raise the limit. Not raising the debt limit would be the ultimate case of irresponsibility. If your party thinks we have too much debt, put out an actual plan that addresses the debt issue.

I imagine the austerity ghouls of the austrian school like the leprechaun Ron Paul and Peter Schiff are going absolutely ecstatic over the possibility of a United States default right now after years of wrong predictions.
