Say hello to Obamacare phones.

In Tennessee, those shopping on the new health insurance co-ops could end up with more than just some health insurance. They might even walk away with a free smartphone.

The Nashville Business Journal is reporting that Community Health Alliance, Tennessee’s Obamacare health insurance co-op, is using the prospect of a free phone to encourage folks to enroll:

Yes, the Community Health Alliance (linked in the Daily Caller article), Tennessee's health insurance co-op, is doing the promotion with their own money. No other group is doing it. It is not a bribe, as they say it is to:

The idea is to make it easier for providers and patients to stay connected, but it will also help CHA keep track of its member population, many of whom are expected to be new to the health insurance market.
It will have health apps, PCP contact information, and directions to urgent care centers. The phone comes pre-loaded with health tools to improve the members health, which must be used as part of the contract. They must see a doctor as part of the agreement and work with a health plan (like stopping smoking, and/or getting fit) to improve their health in order to get the phone for free.

Oh, the horror of a group using their own money to help people.

Are you cons now trying to tell private industry how to go about attracting customers? Let the free markets be free, for Pete's sake.

The Community Health Alliance is not a private company?

Quote:
Community Health Alliance is a new and different kind of health insurance company. We are Tennessee’s health insurance CO-OP- the first of our kind and the ONLY Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan (CO-OP) in Tennessee.
Who is CHA? | Community Health Alliance

They do not know what a CO-Op is and have no idea what ACA is really, but when one has The Daily Caller as their source one understands how their information is a bit on the lacking side of things.
