I an a Liberal Democrat and I am part of the very few on this board. Most of the posters are reactionaries pleading to go back to a time that never existed except in John Wayne westerns.
I believe in universal health care, pro-choice, legalised drugs, a min wage and basic welfare. Religion should have absolutely no part in politics or decision making at all, and should be a personal matter only.
On the other hand I also think that free market capitalism is the best form of economy (with some regulation to stop people being screwed over), pro mining/oil & gas/development, hate environmentalists, pro-death penalty for murderers/terrorists, and think that space exploration should receive more funding that it does.

I am a democratic socialist and usually write in Eugene Debs, who, though dead, would still do a better job running this country than the amoral sheckel-lickers. 'Sire, the peasants are revolting.' 'Boy, I'll say! Pull!'
Much of this is of course true.
And as soon as the Tea Party separates itself from the Pubs, they will nominate a truer conservative and....
then....
You have no idea what a conservative is if you can dismiss the TEA party as you do. The TEA party wants government to adhere to the Constitution - no more and no less.
The progressive side of the democrat party is trying to fundamentally transform the nation and steer it towards a more of a socialist state than they have since WWII. They scorn and disdain the Constitution as it is an old piece of paper with no relevence to modern times. How so? It has lasted 238 years and gotten the entitlement class to where they are to date, no? Name another country with that track record. No kings/queens or any royalty at all to tell you to stand in a corner or a line to wait for something you should be able to procure for yourself.
The liberal left is hoping to bring that to you soon and you are seeing the effects already.
Actually pretty even. What you fail to take into account is that many of the members who are extremely liberal don't believe that they are and even will say that they're actually conservative. Many also claim that Obama is the most conservative President in a couple or three generations. I could name some of those members but I'd like to go a month or two without a suspension.
My friend from Florida named Bob (he drives a Lexus) just called so I have to go. He wants to sing O Dannyboy to Mrs. NBP.
How do you know who voted what? It's an anonymous poll.
My thoughts are like this. I have an uncle who claims that I am liberal. However, I'm not. I'm very fiscally conservative and I'm progressive on social issues. I'm an advocate of personal responsibility. I believe in the free market, with some regulations to prevent an extreme oligarchy. I believe that gay marriage should be a thing, I believe that weed should be legalized and regulated, I believe that gun ownership (though a right) should be better regulated...
In his eyes, these values make me an extreme liberal. Au contraire...rather, this makes him an extreme conservative, because he is intolerant of ANY progressive ideas or beliefs. I think what you're thinking is somewhere along the lines of how my uncle sees things.
That said, I do strongly believe that this forum has a right-leaning bias due to the demographics it tends to attract (older folks with more traditional values, many retirees who use this forum as form of hobby or past time). Not to say there aren't liberals sprinkled in. This has been my observation on several of the forums.
I love the way liberals like to try and form a union with moderates, like they are so closely related. Not.
Liberals have to do that to camouflage the fact that the modern day Democrat party has moved so far to the extreme left as to make any talk of "moderation" among todays liberals a joke.
Liberals today would elect Joe Stalin or Vlad Lenin if they had the chance.
I mean, perhaps relative to the rest of the world. But at best, I'd say the majority are center-right. Again, that's because of the Boomer generation having a Vulcan death grip on the political system due to their sheer size in numbers. In 10 or 20 years, the political landscape in this country may be very different. I can definitely see most Americans becoming socially progressive with the exception of small pockets in the deep south.
And per your last comment that this board is full of Liberals, the numbers in the poll are clearly not supporting your theory.
That is an interesting point about the boomers - sometimes it is too easy to associate Harrier's parents generation with the 60's, drugs, psychedelic music, Vietnam , etc..., and ignore the sheer sociological impact of the birth rate that produced the "Boomers" and the fact that they have greatly influenced the republic for the last 30 years - to its detriment, in Harrier's opinion.
By the way, all you Harrier haters - you can blame the Vietnam War for Harrier posting here - if the Vietnam War had not occurred, Harrier would have never existed.
17 liberals vs 34 conservatives. I haven't even counted the libertarians yet.
You have 50 Conservative/leaning Right to 48 Liberal/leaning Left. Add in the Libertarians to the Right and the Socialist/Communist/Anarchist to the Left and it's still fairly even, 68-58. Throw out the Libertarians because many can never make up their minds about what it is they believe in and it tips Left.
