Statist Democrats? Try just about everyone in Congress. The tax code is complex because lobbyist have paid a lot of money to make it complex. If you think the Republicans have any interest in changing the tax codes besides making them more complex in favor of their donors, then you would be wrong.

Conservatives have had 100 years to get rid of it but instead it's been expanded to just about every red and blue state.

..and it's more than 100 years. The first income taxes were levied in 1862 and accounted for approx 20% of Union war revenue.

You seem to believe only Dem leaders like taxes, guess you have never heard of property, sales or sin taxes all of which the Repubs apsolutely love. Or how about making you pay a toll to drive on a haighway you already paid for, that sound ok to you. When was the last time a Repub wrote a Bill to eliminate the income tax or suggest going to a Flat/Consumption/Fair tax?
Yes, by all means B*tch about the evil Dems and their taxes while your guys are sticking it to you daily.
