It may not work. The signup periods in the Exchange will just be for the first few months of the year - before the tax deadline. There are exceptions but if you apply for insurance through an exchange in June you won't get it until next year. You can still get a non-exchange policy in June but you pay the full premium without tax credits until the next tax year. Insurance companies will likely take advantage of this desperate market and offer non exchange plans with higher premiums.
