WASP is a stereotype actually -- the assumption that anyone that is white, of Anglo-Saxon heritage and Protestant is some rich upper class type. There is some truth that the habits of WASPs can lead to wealth -- strong work ethic, temperance, independence from patronage, frugality, diligence.
You forgot being born with inherited wealth, having an entrenched old boys network, white privilege..........
WASP seems to mainly imply well-off white people particularly in the Northeast. The vast majority of white Southerners are Protestants of English, Scottish and/or Scots-Irish ancestry but that's not what people have in mind when they're talking about "WASPs."
In the Northeast, especially New England, this type of WASP is known as a Yankee.
Yes, it's challenging for most adults to learn a foreign language. And when the immigrants lived in neighborhoods where they didn't have to learn English, they didn't. They could attend church, school, and do their grocery shopping surrounded by people who spoke their language.
It's that way now. What's the difference? You can be here all your life in some parts of America and speak Spanish, or Chinese without ever needing to learn English.
What the hell is the difference between a white person and an "ethnic" white person?
What is an "ethnic" white person?
There has always been, especially in the Northeast, a designation of people not from Northern Europe or the British Isles as "white ethnics." Italians, Portuguese, Poles, Czechs, Slovaks, Greeks, Portuguese, Serbs, Croats, Hungarians, etc.
Actually, it would be more like calling all Spanish speakers "Hispanics," which, as you know, is done.
Agreed.
"Anglo" and "Hispanic": there ain't half and half; they're 1 or the other. Tho it's easier for a white Hispanic to walk away from that world and join the anglo white world; harder to go the other way unless the person can PROVE some "Hispanic" heritage.

Like you said; Northeast, that "rule" doesn't apply here in Arizona. They'd all be "anglo" here, even the Portuguese.

Yeah, my old buddy Armando Cruz is Portuguese, hence, he's Anglo.
